life + style + art: beach retro

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Today has been a good day. I went to Johnson’s Beach in Perdido, Florida with all of my immediate family, minus my little sis who vacation plans of her own. Still, it was a beautiful day. I actually braved the Gulf waters for the first time since the BP oil rig disaster a little over a year ago. The water was cool, yet refreshing, and there was a continuous, cool breeze blowing the entire time.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to get in the water, yet I didn’t feel like styling my hair, so before leaving, I wrapped my hair up in this yellow, patterned scarf that I purchased a few months ago from ModCloth but had yet to wear. I also wore my Favela shirt by Threadless and some olive clam diggers that I hadn’t worn in ages, cuffing the bottom to give them an different look.

And I drew something, inspired by my turban, my sister’s glasses, and general surroundings. For example, those two girls in the background were actually there.

I see a few things I want to change about this. I’m going to to retrace the lines in Photoshop with my tablet and then color it.

Here’s a handy video of how I wore my turban, except I tied it a little differently (read: crappily). My mom said I looked like Lucille Ball while my sis claimed I looked like Rosie the Riveter. Cool beans. :)

art teaser: two WIPs + music & weekend plans

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

Thought I would post something I’ve been working on.

art preview

Like always, anatomy and proportion issues about in the initial stages of both drawings.

Been listening to the new album from ADELE, entitled 21. It took me a while to get into the richer, more refined production of the songs, but I do like it a lot. Her cover of “Love Song” (originally by The Cure) was an unexpected, yet pleasant surprise.

I’m up for a busy weekend. At the end of it, I expect to have quite a few lovely photos to share.

vid: The Satorialist. A Visual Life

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

I began following this blog a few months back to get ideas on fashion for characters, since I’m utterly uninspired in that regard.

Rockferry

“Rockferry” by Duffy

I’m really feelin’ her music right now. Her single, “Mercy,” was available as a free download on iTunes several months back. I got it, but didn’t listen to it at the time. A little while ago, I started hearing the song on the radio, and them remembered her name was familiar. I decided to investigate more of her music, and I like it a lot. I just bought her album last night. My favorite songs are “Warwick Avenue” and “Stepping Stone,” but it’s a good listen all the way through. (I so wish I was more eloquent in describing music.)

I described her voice to a friend as Amy-Winehouse-on-helium. That’s as best as I can approximate it. Their voices are very similar in tone and inflection, Duffy’s is just a lot higher. Also, she’s totally adorable.
