Rockferry

“Rockferry” by Duffy

I’m really feelin’ her music right now. Her single, “Mercy,” was available as a free download on iTunes several months back. I got it, but didn’t listen to it at the time. A little while ago, I started hearing the song on the radio, and them remembered her name was familiar. I decided to investigate more of her music, and I like it a lot. I just bought her album last night. My favorite songs are “Warwick Avenue” and “Stepping Stone,” but it’s a good listen all the way through. (I so wish I was more eloquent in describing music.)

I described her voice to a friend as Amy-Winehouse-on-helium. That’s as best as I can approximate it. Their voices are very similar in tone and inflection, Duffy’s is just a lot higher. Also, she’s totally adorable.

Photos were rather scarce this past month. I took quite a few self portraits, but who really wants to see more of me? (heh)

Recs: Bear Creek Apts / loish / Faith / cab ride

. Comic .
Bear Creek Apartments” by Hope Larson & Bryan Lee O’Malley | They’re married (and rather well known artists on the indie comics scene), and I don’t think they usually collaborate, but I enjoyed this short story, the whimsy of it all.

. Art .
Lois van Baarle | a very talented young woman. I used to follow her work on deviantART and just rediscovered her yesterday via a friend’s link on facebook.
Faith Erin Hicks | She’s pretty good for someone who learned to draw just so she could tell her stories. I’ll been following her work for a few years.

. Life .
The Cab Ride I’ll Never Forget” by Kent Nerburn | A story about how the not-so-little things in life really matter.
